During the spring term, Counselling and Guidance are holding a number of groups and workshops open to all students who are interested in exploring their concerns with likeminded people. It can be hard to believe that other people share similar worries and struggle with similar issues. But it true, you are not alone!
Spring Term programme 2009
Anxiety and Stress Management – in an hour!
Feeling anxious and stressed out? Come along to a one hour, single session workshop to help you understand what contributes towards your anxiety and stress. Come and pick up tips and techniques on how to deal with it better.
Wednesdays 1.00pm-2.00pm
Understanding and Overcoming Anxiety
Do you suffer from anxiety? This workshop aims to introduce practical techniques and strategies for overcoming anxious thoughts and feelings, helping you to manage your anxiety better.
Thursday 5.00pm-7.00pm; 26th February.
Relaxation workshops
These workshops will help you to learn some simple but effective relaxation skills including muscle relaxation, breathing and meditation.

Dealing with Exam Anxiety
Approaching exams with confidence, calm and informed resolve is probably the aim for all students. This workshop will support you in the development of a workable approach to revision and exams.

Confidence building Workshop
Are you experiencing low self-confidence or struggling with a low self-esteem? Then this is the workshop for you. This workshop aims to outline strategies and skills needed to overcome some of the obstacles in the development of a more self assured approach to studying and living at University.

Coping with Bereavement
If you have experienced the loss of a parent or another significant family member, or a friend this may be for you. A therapeutic support group aimed to reduce feelings of isolation by sharing with others who have had similar experiences. It will help you to find supportive ways of dealing with your loss.

Overcoming Procrastination – for Postgraduates
Being a postgraduate student usually entails taking more responsibility for organising your own studies, and also writing a significant and substantial piece of work. This two week support group will help you to identify some of the most common unhelpful thinking patterns that can stop you from getting on with your work. It will also provide an opportunity to hear from other students about how they are coping with the demands of academic study at a postgraduate level.
