The Guild has four media groups, located in the basement of the Guild of Students, so whether you're interested in print, broadcast or photographic journalism there's something for everyone. Each group offers training and skills to anyone who has an interest in the media and by getting involved you can not only gain valuable experience but also use your skills to communicate to wider student body.

 

Burn FM.com

BURN is the University’s radio station, and gives you all of the skills involved in radio broadcasting. They usually broadcast on FM for about a month of the year, and stream online throughout the Autumn and Spring terms.

G:TV (Guild TV)

Guild Television, G:TV, is the University's student-run television station. We produce and direct many of our own programmes, from news and sports to music and entertainment, as well as filming events across campus and throughout the wider Birmingham area. We hold weekly meetings in our TV studio on Wednesdays at 2pm and always have opportunities available for presenters, crew and in post-production. No previous experience is required as we provide training in all aspects of television production - so come along and get involved!

Photosoc

Photosoc is for anyone interested in photography, absolute beginner or professional. They cover all things photography including workshops, classes, trips around Birmingham and the rest of the country and hold a big exhibition at least once per year.

Photosoc regularly host professional guest photographers to share their great work and knowledge in photography, media and business. They have a collection of photographic equipment for anything from getting used to how digital cameras work to setting up a portable studio to developing films in the society darkroom.

Redbrick

The student newspaper, which is weekly during the Autumn and Spring terms and monthly during the summer term. Your chance to get involved with a 28-page newspaper, covering News, Features, Lifestyle, Sport and with reviews of Film, Arts&Culture, TV and videogames. You can get involved as a writer, photographer, proofreader or as one of the editing team.

Science and Technology News and Views Magazine (SATNAV)

The student-led science magazine at the University of Birmingham.SATNAV is currently produced and published every semester.
