 Ballroom and Latin American dancing

They hold four classes a week, taught by a professional Ballroom and Latin dance instructor, at all levels of ability.  Students are given the opportunity to work towards the nationally accredited medal system learning to dance in a huge range of styles from the Waltz to the Jive to the Tango.  Aside from the professional classes we hold informal practice sessions every weekend to go over what has been taught in class and ensure that everyone is up to speed.  It’s a great way to meet new people, keep fit and above all have loads of fun learning to dance!

Dance (BUDS)

The Dance Society offers dance classes to students of the University during term time, all week, every week. Classes generally start on week 2 of each semester and are available for dancers of differing abilities and styles.  They cater for dancers at beginners, intermediate and advanced standard in disciplines such as ballet, tap and modern.  We also offer classes such as contemporary, Irish, belly, break, fame and musical theatre. We also offer the opportunity to be part of our annual show in the Spring Semester, which seems to get bigger and better every year!

 Dance Club Latino

Dance Club Latino (DCL) is a very active society teaching predominantly salsa classes each Monday and Wednesday evening during term-time. In addition to these regular classes DCL offer special workshops in Bachatta, Meringue and Rueda. The lessons are split into beginners, improvers and intermediate dancers, all of which are taught by professionally recognised salsa instructors. There is no need to bring a partner and the classes are very relaxed and sociable. The society has close links to other salsa networks within Birmingham and often arranges trips and social events to some of Birmingham’s best Latin workshops, classes and social evenings. Salsa dancing is extremely fun and a great way to socialise and meet new people whilst exercising.
