► Door Step Challenge

Every year, thousands of students move out of Bournbrook and what they leave behind in terms of rubbish or old furniture usually ends up in their garden, as landlords clear the property for new tenants. This looks unsightly and makes the area look a mess! This can also have the affect of long-term residents feeling like the new residents have no care for their area. We know this isn’t true and work to help clear the mess and portray a positive image of students. One idea to help us do this is the Doorstep Challenge, which gives everyone the opportunity to tidy their garden and win some prizes in the process!

What is the Doorstep Challenge?

Doorstep Challenge is simple. If a householder makes the effort to clean a garden really well, they will be entered into a judging competition with the chance of winning some great prizes. We have prizes of a £100 Tesco voucher with 3 other vouchers worth £50. There is also a £40 Frankie & Bennies meal up for grabs.

If you need to clear large items that won’t fit into a rubbish bag, Birmingham City Council have a bulky waste collection service where they will take away up to 6 large items for free. Call 0121 303 1112 for information.

The more effort that goes in, the greater the chance of winning the top prize!

What happens next?

Community Wardens will be visiting gardens to take ‘before’ pictures. Weeks commencing 12th October until the 23rd October will be the dates for garden tidy ups. We will then take ‘after’ pictures. All entries will be judged on the 9th November and winners announced and contacted.
A Community Warden will pop along to your address, take a ‘before’ picture and leave a bin bag to put any rubbish into. If you’re not around at this time, don’t worry, we will leave a calling card. Of course, if you would like you and your house mates in the picture, please mention this in the entry email and we will arrange a suitable time for before and after photos.

Give the garden a good clean and e-mail us again and we will pop along and take an ‘after’ photo. We will then submit this photo for judging and if successful, you could be in with the chance of winning a £100 Tesco voucher.

How do I get involved?

Entry is really simple. E-mail your name and address to: community@guild.bham.ac.uk or call (0121) 251 2502.

Any problems, comments or questions contact your Community Wardens via e-mail: community@guild.bham.ac.uk or telephone 0121 251 2502.
