► Requirements For Positions

The Guild is currently looking to set up a pool/database of interested/potential trustees and in order to become a trustee you need to meet the following criteria depending on position.

Trustee Board
The Trustees are made up of the following persons:

  • Not more than four Sabbatical Trustees
  • Not more than three Student Trustees
  • Not more than three Lay Trustees
  • Not more than three University Alumni Trustees
  • One University Trustee,ex officio


Student Trustee

  • Each Student Trustee must be a Student at the time of his or her election (and shall continue to be a Student for the duration of his or her term as a StudentTrustee) but a Student who is a major union office holder for the purposes of section 22 of the Education Act may not become a Student Trustee
  • Up to three Student Trustees shall be elected by the Guild Council
  • There should be at least one undergraduate and one postgraduate student


Lay Trustee

  • Up to three Lay Trustees shall be appointed by a simple majority vote of the Appointments Panel. Lay Trustees shall remain in office for a term of up to three years calculated from the date of appointment.
  • Maximum of 2 term
  • Re-appointment of a serving Lay Trustee shall be by the same process in place for any other appointment of a Lay Trustee.


Alumni/External Trustee

  • Up to three University Alumni Trustees shall be appointed by a simple majority vote of the Appointments Panel
  • Can remain in office for a term of up to three years calculated from the date of appointment
  • Maximum of 2 terms
  • Re-appointment of a serving Alumni Trustee shall be by the same process in place for any other appointment of an Alumni Trustee.
