► Arsheen Rajpar

Hi, my name is Arsheen and I would like to be your NUS National Representative. There are so many important issues affecting students that I feel can only be dealt with effectively through the NUS, and that’s why I want to get involved.
My first priority is fairer funding of higher education; the tuition fee cap is being reviewed in 2009 and may well come off altogether unless students present a strong united front for fairer funding arrangements.

Another issue I feel very strongly about is free prescriptions; I think the bureaucracy students have to get through before being entitled to free prescriptions is ridiculous, and ought to be scrapped. Students should have automatic free prescriptions as is already the norm for all other low income groups.

A main concern of mine is the NUS Extra card, which I believe should be abolished. The NUS must learn to live within its means; not try to raise extra money in order to cover deficits. Discounts have to be sought for all students, not just those who buy the almost aggressively promoted card.

Vote for me as #1 for NUS rep to make sure that what you want to happen, happens.
