► Hollie Jones

Hi, my name is Hollie, and I would like you to send me to NUS Conference.

Our NUS delegates must ensure that the issues of Birmingham students are highlighted nationally.
You need to know what issues are discussed at conference and how you are being represented. I’ll consult as many students as possible before submitting policy to conference on behalf of Birmingham, and use my officer blog to keep you informed.

The three issues in my manifesto are higher education funding, the NUS Extra Card and free prescriptions.

I’ve already pushed the NUS to fight on these issues before, at regional and annual events and at officer training over the summer.I’ll continue to push these issues until Birmingham students see a real difference.

I won’t stop until the cap remains safely on our fees and we get real value for our money.

I will fight to ensure that the NUS Extra is a worthwhile investment.

I will fight until every student at Birmingham is eligible for free prescriptions.

I am hard working, and truly believe in the power that NUS holds if it is used effectively. Elect me for a tireless, passionate and unwavering advocate for Birmingham

Send Hollie “Wellfairy” Jones to NUS Conference

Hi, my name is Hollie, and I would like you to send me to NUS Conference as a Birmingham delegate.
I am a second year political science student, who has taken a year out of my degree to be Vice President (Welfare) at the Guild of Students.
I was a regional NUS delegate in 2007/08 and am also a current regional delegate.
I am the West Midlands representative to NUS National Council, the body that makes and implements policy between conferences and holds your national officers to account.
Birmingham delegates need to ensure that the issues of Birmingham students are represented on a national level. You need to know what issues are discussed at conference and how you are being represented.

  • In 2009, the government will review the £3000 cap on tuition fees. We must utilise this opportunity to ensure that education remains a right not an economic privilege, encourage the government to adopt a fairer model for higher education funding and oppose the lifting of the cap. I will ensure that I vote for a credible and winnable campaign to the government.
  • The NUS Extra Card is £10! The NUS must ensure you are getting value for money- more and better discounts and money that goes back in to campaigning for students.
  • My election manifesto for Vice President (Welfare) included a lobby for FREE PRESCRIPTIONS for all students. Students are currently faced with ridiculous prescription charges or have to fill in lengthy forms! If students in Wales don’t have to pay for prescriptions, why should we? I will put this issue back on the national agenda and ensure that NUS is fighting for free prescriptions for you.
