Welfare Wednesdays

Welfare Wednesdays are our way of making sure you look after yourself!

Every other Wednesday the Guild
will be spotlighting a different topic, to ensure you have all the information you need to have a smooth and enjoyable university life.

Your wellbeing is important and it’s sometimes easy to forget that everything you do can contribute to the way you feel. Your workload, eating habits, activity levels, and what you do in your spare time can all have an effect on your wellbeing and general outlook on life.

Welfare Wednesdays are designed to offer you simple ways to look after your wellbeing, whether that’s reducing your chances of getting burgled and keeping you safe on the streets, to having a healthy lifestyle, improving your finances and much more.

Keep your eyes peeled and get involved with the workshops and events happening across the year.

This week... ‘Get Involved’ and its positive correlation on mental health

On Tuesday 31st the ‘Get Involved’ fair will be in the Great Hall so go check it out, But Why??
Well apart from looking good on your C.V. or so we keep being told it’s actually good for your wellbeing.
There is a wide range of societies, associations and volunteering projects run from the guild and all of these will do many important things for you here is a little run down of how they might help.

Have a break
Don’t over do it. Being a student can be tough and it can be more than just revision, lectures and exams. Keeping a good balance between work and social time is good for keeping the mind fresh and clear. Trying something new will take your mind away from the stress of education and help you lift your mood.

Spend some time laughing
A lot of what society’s is about is to find like mind people to have fun with. This is always a good way to improve your mood. Spend some time with friends or make some new ones can make you feel good about yourself and life in general.

Socialise without alcohol
Some people like to drink to help forget their worries but it can actually do the opposite. Alcohol is a depressant and can make things worse. Try something that is alcohol free means you will actually get to know people better and is could for body and mind. For more information of alcohol visit drinkaware.co.uk (www.drinkaware.co.uk
)

Volunteer
Not only another great way to meet new people and try something new you can also get the great feeling of doing something for someone else. There is lots of ways to volunteer through volunteering projects or even by being a committee member of a society.

They are just a few good reason why getting involved is a good idea. For more information and tips on a well-balanced you check out www.nus.org.uk/thinkpositive
