National Student Volunteering Week
20th to 27th February 2012
This National Campaign run by Volunteering England highlights the fantastic volunteering students do whilst at university.
Volunteering is a great way to develop skills and knowledge, improve your employability and gain valuable experience towards your future career, all whilst meeting new friends and having fun!
“Volunteering as a student gives you a unique opportunity to improve your skills and enhance your university experience. Not only can you make a real difference to something you can also develop yourself and put your skills into practice.
With graduate recruiters increasingly asking for more than a degree at their recruitment stages, it is becoming ever more important to show that you have undertaken extra-curricular activities. By volunteering you can become involved in an array of activities that you can showcase on application forms and interviews”.
“Teach First values volunteering because of the skills that are utilised and developed through the experience. At Teach First, we look for eight competencies during our recruitment process, as these help us to determine a candidate’s suitability and potential to be an impactful teacher. These competencies include leadership, resilience, problem-solving – all skills that we often find volunteering can provide good evidence of.” Teach First
