With less than 50 days to the UK General Election on May 7th it’s crucial that you register to vote NOW. All registrations have to be in by April 20th otherwise you will NOT be able to cast your vote on polling day.
The system for registration changed this year – meaning that every individual must now register for themselves. If you are unsure about whether you are registered or not, don’t take the risk. Check it and complete a new one if necessary.
Registering is easy and takes just a few minutes. The only thing you’ll need is your National Insurance number. Do it HERE or check out aboutmyvote.co.uk for full information and some FAQs.
As a Guild we have been working hard to ensure that every UoB student is aware of the election and the need to register. You may have seen us around campus in the white huts, seen one of the 4000 door hangers that we distributed or maybe you’ve noticed the information banners draped in key locations. We really can’t stress enough how important it is to register and as students you have a crucial part to play in electing the next set of leaders for the UK. Do it for you and do it to ensure the student voice is loud and clear
On Wednesday 25th March we’ll be a hosting campus wide registration drives – utilising the famous ‘white huts’ again with paper forms and ipads to assist with registration and answer any questions.
We’ll also have a Red Double Decker bus at the front of the Guild as a ‘registration station’ and every student that fills in a form will be eligible to be entered into a prize draw for £30 Amazon Vouchers and a £200 STA Travel Voucher (check out the full info on this HERE)
Finally we’ve also been working with Birmingham City University Students’ Union to draw together a ‘Birmingham Asks Student Manifesto’ that draws together the key issues that think students at the moment. We’ll be sharing this next week and we’ll need your help to get local candidates to pledge their support.
Finally finally – we have an opportunity for students to earn £7.85 and hour for just promoting voter registration to the UoB student community. Check out HERE for more info. Be quick.
As ever if you have any questions or want to get involved with our work let us know through studentvoice@guild.bham.ac.uk
