Guild of Students Student Groups

Liberation and Representation Associations

Associations work on behalf of students that may face barriers or be disadvantaged within Higher Education. Liberation groups also represent students that may face barriers or be oppressed within wider society as well. These groups are there to represent you and campaign on those issues that you think are important. They also organise activities and social events so you can develop a strong support network with other people who may be facing similar issues. If you are a student that falls under the category of one of our associations then you are automatically a member. This also means you don't need to pay a membership fee!

Birmingham Ethnic Minority Association (BEMA)

BEMA represents Black & Minority Ethnic groups at the University on welfare, social and political needs and interests within the Guild. We provide spaces for self-empowerment and discussion, hold events to celebrate and highlight our communities’ diversity and contributions, and hope to represent our members’ interests across all levels of the Guild.
