Henny’s best of Brum!
I want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to get the best out of their time in Birmingham. There are so many amazing places to visit and cool events happening that it’s sometimes hard to keep up! That’s why I’ve started this blog series, each time giving you my favourite places you should visit that week. Plus in order to maintain that healthy balanced lifestyle, you need to take time out your studies to switch off, relax and enjoy yourself. Here are this week’s top 5:
1. Mini Golf in Cannon Hill Park @Golden Putter
This is a brilliant activity for you to try with your flat mates, course mates, sports team or family. Have a friendly game or play super competitively, you choose. No booking is required – just turn up and play. You can play 18 or 36 holes. Some of the holes are challenging and there’s some pretty fancy water features to add to the excitement. Try and beat my score of 54. It’s super easy to get to as well if you live in Selly Oak.
2. Digbeth Dining Club
If you love food, then this is the place for you! Digbeth turns into a massive street food festival every Friday and Saturday from 5pm until late. It was winner of Best Street Food Event in the UK. This place is really cool, and has a cool vibe. You can find delicious offerings from a range of street food outlets, and also listen to great music. Each week there tends to be a different themes so there’s always something new to discover!
3. Lost and Found
This bar does amazing cocktails. It’s definitely a place I recommend to go for special occasions. I went there for my birthday last year and it was really good fun, and the staff made sure we had plenty of drinks. The cocktails tasted amaze and the place had a great atmosphere. They also serve food – I recommend the sweet potato fries! It’s just in the city centre too, so you can easily get there by train.
4. Arco Lounge
This place is Helena, your Sports Officer’s, favourite place. It’s a Retro-chic lounge bar and diner in Harborne serving brunch, tapas and pub food. If you’re one of those people who loves to try all the food then this place is for you; why have 1 big dish when you can have 5 dishes? There’s also gluten-free and vegan menus available. If you’ve been to Arco’s already, then its sister restaurant in Kings Heath, Loco Lounge, is also worth checking out!
5. Vale Fireworks – this Thursday, Vale Village
Over my 3 years at Birmingham I have never missed the Vale Fireworks – and I implore you not to miss this year’s spectacular this Thursday! Wrap up warm, and huddle next to your friends as you watch the amazing fireworks and sing along to the music. There’ll be funfair and food and drink available, from classic burgers to candy floss. What’s more, the fireworks are completely FREE! If you’re not tired after all that, then there’s also a Fab ‘N’ Fresh you can go to at the Guild to carry on the partying.
Where else should I check out? Let me know your favourite Brum hangouts and I can include them in future blogs!
