Post-Study Work Visa Petition

Hi guys!

Following the reintroduction of the 2-year post-study work visa, a petition has been put forward with the aim of bringing the start date of this visa closer. This would help current international students (i.e. students graduating before 2021) to also benefit from this scheme for the two years following their graduation.

What is the 2 year Post-Study Work Visa?

According to Gov.uk this ‘new ‘Graduate’ route will be open to all international students […] who have valid UK immigration status as a student and have successfully completed a course of study in any subject at undergraduate level or above at an approved UK Higher Education Provider. The visa will allow eligible students to work, or look for work, in any career or position of their choice, for two years after completing their studies.’

The National Union of Students has welcomed the reintroduction of the post-study work visa, commenting that ‘International students are an essential part of the student community […] and we will continue to campaign for a UK that welcomes international students whilst acknowledging their contributions to the economy.’

Our global student community…

Here at Birmingham we have a vast and vibrant global student community from all over the world. So I feel that this petition is a step towards celebrating and acknowledging this, whilst ensuring that current, as well as future international students are provided with the best opportunities to continue their careers after graduation.

If you agree, and would like to sign this petition to bring forward the date of the post-study work-visa to benefit our current cohort of international students, please click here.

Thank you.

Tobi
