Amie Says

Hello!

Hi guys! I’m Amie your new Activities and Employability Officer! This is my first blog entry to help you guys get to know a bit more about me.

I'm here to support and oversee the wide range of student groups and societies here at the Guild, as well as working with the Jobs, Skills and Volunteering department to help you earn money and develop some new skills. Essentially, I’m here to ensure you have the best possible experience whilst you’re a student at Birmingham!

I’m sure many of you already know about the role of AEO, so I thought it would be good to tell you a bit about me and my time at Birmingham!

I finished my degree studying Psychology this year, with my diss centring around psychopathic traits and processing emotions. Don’t worry if that goes over your head - it was a complex project! As well as being a psychology student, I was on the UoB Psychology Society committee for two years. In second year I was the Social Sec and this year I was the President. I am very proud of everything I have achieved on the committee, especially winning a Guild Award this year for our annual Mental Health First Aid training!

I ran for AEO because I wanted to help improve the Guild based on my own experiences. In particular, I wanted to help improve the student group experience and enhance students' time at UoB. Given the circumstances of COVID-19 I want this more than ever. I want to start by ensuring solid and regular communications from the Guild in order to best support societies. I can’t wait to work on my manifesto points and see them become a reality. I’m also excited to continue Ryan’s work. This year will certainly be interesting!
