The role of the Ethnic Minority Students’ Officer has always been to represent students of a visible minority and support them during their time at UoB, and I have no plan to deviate from that.
2020 has been a challenging year so far, but it has seen a surge of open dialogues about injustices and inequalities that plague our society. As we bounce back from lockdown, I would like to see these important discussions continue, but I would also like to push for action.
There is a real opportunity this year to introduce new initiatives - to call out and change things that have been problematic in the past, and have a lasting impact. There has never been a better time than now to shake things up for the better.
We all have a part to play in this time of revision, so let’s work and learn together to make it happen. I would strongly encourage everyone to be open-minded, and willing to listen to and show compassion to one another.
