Written Statement
My name is Valeriya Cherekaeva and I am a 2nd year student at the University of Birmingham. Originally, I am from Russia, but now I am living in the UK for 3 years to study.
The University of Birmingham is an international environment, and I wish to become the International Student Officer because I want to help full-time or part-time students from different parts of the world feel comfortable during their studies in the UK.
Before deciding to take part in elections I gathered data by asking international students from my course if they knew about the International Student Officer. Unfortunately, 11 students out of 14 had never heard about it. Nevertheless, all students agree that it is useful to have a person who can help them to settle down in the UK.
As an International Student Officer I want to make sure that if international students need any help they know where to ask. In addition, create a portal with all information for international students which may include: where to find the international student officer, international events, and information about living in Birmingham and England as a whole.
