Lewis 'The Lion' Addlington-Lee

My name is Lewis Addlington-Lee and I’m running to be your next Education Officer. I am a second year Drama and Theatre arts student. Currently I’m the Community Action Officer at the Guild, a role which has involved taking a lead in Birmingham on NUS’ #CutTheCosts campaign to save maintenance grants, and working to improve mental health services at the University. Last year I was an LGBTQ guild councillor, and was active in LGBTQ Association and Folk Soc. These experiences have provided me with a strong understanding of the Guild, as well as the skills and drive needed to represent you and your concerns at every level in the university. I’m an outgoing, approachable and committed person who is not afraid to stand up for students and make sure your voice is listened to, not just heard. As a Part-Time Officer I’ve been working towards affecting positive change for students, vote for me and together we can achieve even more.

In this election I am running under 3 main policies: make Coursework and Revision work better for you, review and improve Group Presentations, and protecting Disabled Students Allowance at UoB.

  1. Coursework and Revision
  • I will work towards getting lecture recordings across all departments, and where this is not possible create a standardised level of notes so you can get all the information you need.
  • Building on the work of the current Education Officer, I aim to increase the availability of silent, individual and group study spaces that you can book for greater ease of access.
  • I’ll work on reducing the financial burden on students by ensuring that the library stocks more copies of key module texts.
  1. Group Presentations
  • Group presentations are an essential part of learning, but the way they are structured and assessed doesn’t work for students. I will conduct a review to see how we can improve them and make them fairer for everyone. I understand that one size doesn’t fit all, so I’ll work on a departmental level to see how this can be achieved.
  1. Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)
  • Disabled Students Allowance is being cut by 80% across the country over the next 2 years. I’ll strive to keep the funding at UoB so that the huge numbers of students affected can continue their education with the help they need.

VOTE LEWIS ‘THE LION’ #1 FOR EDUCATION OFFICER – Taking pride in our education.
