As your Education Officer, I’ve worked tirelessly to ensure your academic experience is as good as it can be and have fought endlessly on issues that matter most to you. From tackling the timetabling problems that religious students face to ensuring the University fully upholds its free Wednesday afternoon policy, I have heard your voices loud and clear. I’ve secured a new PGO for these elections, as well as ensuring a working group was set up in the University to help tackle the issues BME students face.

I successfully fought to secure the new library to be 24 hours with plug sockets at every space, started a project in which every module will have the assessment date published before registration to avoid bunched deadlines and with the University I have ensured that sexual harassment and assault is included as an extenuating circumstance.

However, so much more can be done. If elected as your President, I’ll use the relationships I’ve developed over the past year to achieve these promises, all of which have come from you.

Anti-Racism Anti-Fascism

Every student has the right to walk around campus free from fear and persecution. When I publically condemned the ‘Hitler was Right’ poster found on campus, I was met with a torrent of anti-Semitic abuse. I pledge to ensure this rhetoric is further kicked off campus, that everyone feels safe to express their identities as they wish and no student is scared to speak up.

Guild App

Do you sometimes struggle to leave bed to beat the rush on a Sunday morning to grab Fab tickets? Have you ever been confused how to vote in a Guild election? I aim to bring these and more to your fingertips, through a new Guild App. Additionally, the app would allow students to report an act of sexual harassment instantly, tying with our ‘Not On’ campaign and would be ready to launch for Welcome Week.

International Students

In the most recent Guild survey, only 18% of International Students expressed they were ‘very satisfied’ with their overall student experience. This is just not okay. If elected, I aim to create stronger provisions for international students around plagiarism and referencing support. I’ll create an annual ‘Banking Fair’ and information packs for new international students in different languages, so the transition is as smooth as possible.

More of what you want

34% asked for healthier, cheaper and more varied food on campus. 2,000+ of you enjoyed the first ‘Winter Spectacular’ event and want to see it again. Countless students have lobbied for there to be microwaves in common rooms. I will give you these and more – providing more of what you want.

Finally, I aim to keep Selly and other student areas as safe as possible by lobbying the local council and national stakeholders to increase security presence and investigate other initiatives with them to ensure students are as secure as possible.

If you want experience, passion and dedication then Vote Izzy ‘Jenga’ Lenga #1 for Guild President!
