HARRY WILLIS

My name’s Harry and I’m an English Literature undergraduate currently in my first year of study. When researching for this position, I was appalled at the National Union of Students’ estimation that one in five LGBTQ* students will face harassment of some kind during their time in higher education. For students who identify as transgender, this number sadly increases to one in three. While I’ve experienced nothing but warmth and tolerance on campus regarding my sexuality, I’m fully aware my privilege as a cisgender, white male does not eliminate the very real transphobia and homophobia that affects hundreds of people at our university. In order to maintain the safe and welcoming environment I have encountered, I intend on making myself completely available to you for discussion about any area of the LGBTQ* experience, through an established set of contact hours and various social media platforms. From your feedback, I’ll tirelessly fight to resolve any changes you want made using the resources and influence provided as counsellor. Even if you’re just looking for personal support, I’m forever happy to help. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected on and off of campus; I hope to represent our community to achieve this.
