Hello, I’m Georgie (More-Gains) Freeman and I am standing to be your Sports Officer for 2016-2017. I am running for this position because I am passionate about sport and about encouraging people to give sport a go. I am an enthusiastic, approachable and hardworking individual, I would put my all into this role and would really love to make a difference to sport at our University by taking on this new challenge.

If elected I hope to enhance the students’ sporting experience, I want to highlight what is available to you right on your door step. I want to help people make the most out of the new sports centre, to enjoy being active and to be proud of sport at Birmingham.

My three main policies are:

1. INTER VARSITY COMPETITIONS: Each sports club to have the opportunity to hold open competitions where everyone is welcome to try out their sport. It could be just once throughout the year or even start up an inter-varsity league every month! This will encourage more people to have a go in a competitive but fun and friendly environment. An example of this is the Triathlon Club's inaugural Inter-University Aquathlon (swim & run) where all students from all universities are invited. It would be great if other clubs could follow suit too!

2. SOCIAL SPORT: More sport for fun, for fitness and for all abilities by increasing awareness of what is available. Increasing inter-mural sport opportunities and assisting clubs to start up a social squad with the help of the National Governing Body. Helping clubs facilitate for not just their competitive members but also for their social ones.

3. PROMOTION AND PROVISION: Increase awareness of sport through the new sports centre by offering tours so that students can see the facilities available. Making information readily accessible especially to those who would not have considered sport beforehand by targeting specific groups/societies. Helping to make people conscious of what is going on and how they can get involved through social media, communication and tours.

I have a lot of experience in a variety of sports, I have been a member of Brum Ski, Brum Surf and Triathlon. In my second year I was the Mini-Forum Water Sports Representative, I worked with the VPS by representing all the water sport clubs and by voting at guild council on important sporting matters. I was also the women’s captain of the triathlon club. During my year abroad in France I was a member of both the swimming and athletics club’s. I am now in my final year and captaining the Triathlon club. So I am well trained in balancing three different sports, my degree and being in a position of responsibility.

My manifesto targets are attainable and I would work very hard to achieve them. I would especially enjoy encouraging more people to get active and have fun by taking part in sport, so I would really appreciate it if you vote for me!
