Being in the country's second city we host one of the largest student populations at over 30,000. A significant proportion are Home Students. We commute daily, many of us for over an hour.

We sometimes however feel our concerns aren’t given the hearing they deserve. As Home Students Officer I will endeavour to be the voice of Home Students and make sure we get a fair hearing, making sure we get the best out of the student experience. I will work towards:

  • A safer commute. There has been a spate of muggings, attacks and a general increase in crime around the University. Many Home Students commute late in the evenings, especially during exam season, near deadlines or when lectures are scheduled late. Many of us travel by public transport. I will work with both the Guild and University, along with partner organisations, to make our journeys safer.
  • Encourage Panopto usage. I will campaign for Panopto to be used more widely in the University for the benefit of Home Students who cannot sometimes attend lectures, such as when trains are cancelled.

Alongside these I will also work on lobbying to improve the parking permits system and making Freshers' more inclusive.
