Marvin 'Marvel' Obi

Hi my name is Marvin ‘Marvel’ Obi and I am running to be the Sports Officer for 2016/17. I am currently a second year medical biochemistry student, as well as the Social Secretary for the University of Birmingham Lions American Football team. Sport has always been a huge part of my life and university sport has been essential to building many of the relationships I have at UoB. I feel I will be a great Sports Officer because I understand the importance of being able to cater to every level of sportsperson,  from the absolute beginner to the world-class athlete.

My manifesto points include:

*NEW SPORTS CENTRE PRIORITISED FOR STUDENTS*

With sport such a huge part of university life, us as students deserve to have priority when it comes to facilities. I aim to make sure that all students, competing and non-competing, are at the forefront when the new 360 Sports and Fitness centre opens in Summer 2016!

*REVIEW IMS SYSTEM*

The Intra-Mural Sport system has failed to achieve what it has always promised. I want to able to give the opportunity to students who don’t necessarily want the commitment of joining a university squad but still want to be able to participate, stay fit and have fun. This will also tie in to the development and growth of TrySport into different sports.

*2016 SEASON LAUNCH DAY*

With the new sports centre opening in the summer of 2016, I propose to run a preseason sports event, to celebrate the new sports centre opening, mirroring that of a varsity. I feel that this will instil a sense of pride and give our students the opportunity to get behind our  teams and bring home the win!

*MAKE CLUBS MORE ACCESSIBLE*

UoB sports teams have done an incredible job of being able to recruit members via Sports Fair, and other means. I want to make it even easier for prospective students as well as current students to be able to contact teams to express their interesting in joining/following a club via a mobile app. This will also allow teams to self promote themselves to get their name out there!
