I’m Chris Wilkinson, and I hope to be your next Education Officer. Your degree is the main reason why you are here, so it’s only right that you get the best experience possible, and one that you love. I plan to do this by putting your degree where it belongs: in your hands. A vote for me is a vote to give you the power to own, customise and maximise your degree.
Own:
Your feedback is crucial for shaping your degree, but it’s not always easy giving feedback. As Education Officer, I will introduce ‘Text Your Rep’: a scheme which lets you give feedback on anything you think needs improving. All you have to do is exactly what it says on the tin: just text your rep! Your feedback will be considered and you’ll be able to receive live updates from your reps each step of the way. And, to make sure that everyone is up to date on how their feedback has made a difference, every last Friday of the month, your reps will release the work they’ve been doing on ‘Feedback Friday’.
Customise:
As Education Officer, I would ensure that your degree is tailor made to suit you by increasing transparency when it comes round to choosing your modules. This means that you’ll be able to see how and when your modules are assessed when you’re picking them. No more sitting around writing 3 essays at 4am next to ungodly amounts of coffee (let’s face it, we’ve all been there). I also believe that you should know exactly what your degree entails, especially if you’re a joint honours student. Despite this, only 32% of joint honours students are actually happy with the communication between their departments, which is why I am campaigning for better communication between departments and no more feeling like the middleman.
Maximise:
I’m sure most of you know that annoying feeling when you get an essay back and all you find is a ‘good’ hinging on the end of each paragraph and you’re left wondering how that is meant to help you improve next time. Or perhaps your course is exam based and you wish you knew what you didn’t know and how you can improve for next time. As Education Officer, I will make sure that your feedback is up to the level you deserve. And to ensure that you’re getting to grips with everything you need to know, I pledge to getting more of your lectures on Panopto because it’s not fair that you miss out if you have to miss a lecture.
