The Fossil Free Movement is an international campaign to remove the ‘social licence’ that industries like fossil fuels, tobacco and the arms companies have from their connections to large organisations like banks, governments and universities. Fossil Free UK estimates that UK Universities have £6.6bn invested in fossil fuels, which amounts to £1,804 for every HE student.
Fossil Free is already winning around the world. In the US, 44 public institutions including 6 universities have already ended their investments, and in the UK 54 Universities including Cambridge, Warwick, Birmingham City, Edinburgh, De Montfort and many others. In 2015 the UN general assembly lent its ‘Moral Authority’ to Divest Invest. Wins are coming thicker and faster than ever.

In contrast to BCU, Aston and Newman University who have all committed to remove their investmnents in fossil fuels, The University of Birmingham has around £6m invested in the Fossil Fuel Industry. We are asking UoB to remove it's support for Fossil Fuels, thereby demonstrating it's commitment to protecting our environment and removing any chance of research bias as a result of these connections.

Join us for a day of action on campus, engaging students and staff in our campaign.
