Responsible to:  Jobs, Skills & Volunteering Coordinator (JSV) Staff

Outline of post:  To work as part of the JSV team to provide an excellent standard of customer service.

To work as part of the JSV team to provide an excellent standard of customer service during Welcome Week. You will be helping out at a number of our events such as the Jobs Fair (25th September), Employability Skills Fair (26th September), Volunteering Fair (27th September) and also a number of other smaller events during the week.  Shifts will be during welcome week with also some shifts available in the lead up to welcome week if you are available during the Summer.  Training for the role will be w/c 17th September.  Shifts will be available between 21st September – 27th September, and possibly the week after.

 

General Duties

  1. To assist JSV staff in uploading vacancies to the website, and updating contact on the website pages.
  2. To assist JSV staff in collating feedback from employers by email and phone.
  3. To assist with data entry, monitoring and updating spreadsheets and assisting in the administration and organisation of the volunteering process.
  4. To assist JSV staff in the marketing of the service to organisations in the area.
  5. To assist in receiving and publicising job vacancies and volunteering opportunities; to assist in updating social media pages.
  6. To assist in promoting and informing students and organisations about the JSV service.
  7. To assist students on types of job opportunities that may be available.
  8. To observe and comply with Guild health & safety procedures.  You have a responsibility to work safely at all times and to report any potential hazards, faults or problems to core staff.
  9. To attend and complete compulsory training as required.
  10. To carry out adhoc duties which naturally fall within the reasonable expectations of the post.
  11. To attend work looking clean, smart and wearing the uniform provided, name badges must be worn at all times.

 

Person Specification: Jobs, Skills and Volunteering Assistant Student Staff

The person specification describes the knowledge, experience & abilities that the Guild is looking for in the student staff we employ.  To be successful, during the selection process (application form & interview) you should demonstrate:

  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong ability with Microsoft office.
  • Able to work in a team, but also on own initiative.
  • Flexible, committed and punctual.
  • Able to stay calm and friendly under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Keen to contribute to the development of the JSV Service.
  • Ability to work approximately 8 hours per week.
  • Working outside at times, and at additional events such as jobs fairs, Welcome Week events, Open Days, outreach activity and drop-ins at other sites, when required.
  • Able to balance academic work with your responsibility to the Guild as your employer throughout the academic year.
