Role Summary
Education Officer
Joe Hill - Education Officer
As Education Officer, you’ll be expected to lead Guild decision-making on all education-related issues, and work to make positive change to students’ academic experience. This can be issues raised by students (to you directly or through the rep system), but also understanding and reacting to any changes coming from the University, as well as your own manifesto points.
One of your main responsibilities as Education Officer is to oversee the student rep system, which means you are regularly meeting and talking to students about any questions or concerns they have. You’ll be involved in recruiting reps, planning and running events for them, and using their feedback to lobby the University.
As Education Officer, you will be the main link between the Guild and the University on academic issues. This involves a lot of committee meetings, where it will be your job to advocate for students on a range of issues – from timetabling, to teaching quality, to assessment and feedback. You’ll also be meeting regularly with senior members of University staff. Strong individual relationships are often even more useful than formal meetings when trying to understand and influence University decision making.
In addition to your role-specific responsibilities, as a Guild Officer you will involved in the day-to-day running of the Guild. Along with the rest of the team, you’ll support delivering Welcome Week, tons of events through the year, issuing Guild statements on big issues, working with our marketing team on social media content, and much more!
