The end of term is edging closer, so this is the perfect time to celebrate the hard work that our Student Groups have put in this year. There has been so many amazing successes, and here are just a few examples of some stand out achievements…
ValeFest is the largest student-run festival in Europe and this year the ValeFest Team worked tirelessly to bring us their largest and most ambitious festival yet, in honour of their 15th anniversary. A huge bravo to the ValeFest team for putting on an absolute corker of a festival - no matter the weather!
Birmingham Marrow certainly finished the year with a bang! Well done to the team, who didn’t let the rain stop them from signing up 102 potential life savers to the stem donor register at ValeFest - breaking their personal record!
In April, the UoB Gospel Choir won the 9th annual University Gospel Choir of the Year competition. This was their first time winning the title, so a massive hurrah to the group! A few weeks ago, the group also performed live on Britain’s Got Talent - there’s no stopping this lot!
Congratulations to UoB Islamic Society for organising a wonderful community Iftar on the Green Heart last month! The event was ISOC’s biggest yet, so well done to everyone involved who brought our student community together to break fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
A huge shout out to the UoB Mountaineering Club who were recently featured on BBC News! That’s right, the group were asked to climb the William Mitchell artwork beneath Hockley Circus by a local group, dedicated to protecting Birmingham’s 20th century architecture. Well done UBMC!
Back in January, the UoB Christian Union organised ‘Real Birmingham’; a week of events aimed at starting conversations about life and the Christian faith. Congratulations to everyone involved in organising the event, who worked hard to create a welcoming and safe space for student discussions.
Finally, the women’s team of the UoB Powerlifting Society recently placed second in the country at the British Universities & Colleges (BUCS) Championships, with 4 podium positions across different weight categories, and multiple British and University records. This means they’ll be representing Great Britain at the World University Championships in Estonia in July – a massive triumph! Best of luck in the championships!
These are just few fantastic successes that we couldn’t resist sharing with you all. A huge well done to all Student Groups for your hard work this year - we can’t wait to see what amazing achievements next year has in store!
