Ready to get involved in volunteering? The Guild of Students runs a volunteering portal, in which charities from across the area regularly post volunteering opportunities for students to browse and apply for. One of our students applied for a role volunteering with the RSPB, and in doing so helped them to raise over £4000 from pin badge sales.
RSPB got in touch with us to tell us how Natasha’s volunteering made such a big impact:
“Community Fundraising income is crucial to the work of the RSPB and this couldn’t be done without volunteer help. In October last year fellow University of Birmingham student Natasha embarked on a volunteering journey with the RSPB Midlands Community Fundraising team to help develop and lead a new innovative approach to raising pin badge income in urban areas.
Natasha says “I was drawn towards the role because it allowed me to contribute to an exciting new initiative, as well as helping to raise funds for the RSPB. As a biology major, I am very aware of the importance of conservation.”
Over £4000 was raised from the iconic pin badge boxes in Birmingham city centre in just 12 months – a huge amount towards crucial conservation work. Natasha is now venturing off on her placement year, and with her she takes valuable skills and experiences which will help with her future career development."
