University of Birmingham Public Speaking Society is a society that provides members a platform to build up confidence in public speaking, communication and leadership skills. It trains and provides you with tools to become a more confident, assured and professional public speaker through an array of activities we run weekly.
In our sessions, our members have the option to do a speech on the topic of their own choosing, which is followed by a round of engaging table-topics, essentially impromptu speeches on a random topic, question or statement presented to the public speaker. On other weeks, we regularly hold public-speaking workshops dedicated to a certain aspect of orating, or we sometimes hold fun public-speaking themed games & activities. Members will also have the opportunity to attend a public speaking competition during the academic year. All tasks that speakers can involve themselves in hone & build upon communication and critical-thinking skills, attributes that are increasingly more desirable in today’s world.
We pride ourselves on a no-pressure environment and accept all speakers whether they be beginners or seasoned professionals. Everyone is welcome at the Public Speaking Society and we really love to meet new people! Why not give public speaking a go and join today!
Sessions are held every Thursday in the Business School [GO7] from 19:00 - 20:30.
