Welcome to the Guild of Students Online!
This page will help you understand what the Guild of Students is and what it actually does.
The Guild of Students has one purpose – to make sure that our student members are able to make the most out of their time at university. The Guild is run by students, for students, and offers a huge range of opportunities and services to all University of Birmingham students. It doesn’t matter if you are an undergraduate, a postgraduate, a mature student, an international student, or a student living at home - we’ve got something for you.
The Guild of Students has a long history behind it. We are one of the first recorded student representation organisations in the world, dating back as early as 1900, and the Guild building is the first ever purpose-built base for student representation. We’re proud of our heritage – and prouder still that we continue to put students at the centre of university life, over 100 years later.
Today there are around 28,000 students at the University of Birmingham, and the Guild is the official representative body for each and every one of them. That means that when the Guild speaks, the University pays attention. If you’ve got a problem or something that you want to change, then bring it to the Guild and we can make sure that you are not alone and have instead the weight of 28,000 other students behind you.
There’s so much on offer at the Guild it can take some time to work out what it is that you want to get involved with. But that’s okay – we’re here all year round, and we’re always happy to try and help you find whatever you’re looking for. As well as the Guild building, the Guild has online facilities for many of its services, so wherever you are the Guild can easily be accessed.
