As Vice President Democracy and Resources 08/09, I have a real understanding of student representation. I wish to take this to the NUS, as I believe experience and vision such as mine will make a valuable contribution to national representation.
The NUS extra card already provides good discounts – but it comes at a cost, and I believe that you should be getting more and better discounts at a wider variety of locations. If elected, I will lobby the NUS to do this to you get better value for money meaning you can enjoy your student experience more.
As a recent postgraduate, I am aware of how criminally absent effective postgraduate representation is from the NUS. This issue has been written into the current NUS reform proposals, but I believe that the only solution is to have a dedicated officer, who understands the needs of postgraduate students.
The new zones, such as welfare, are part of the recent NUS reforms, and I support this because they will widen participation. Ultimately, the NUS is for all students, not just those who understand complicated procedure, and these new zones will make it easier for ordinary students to get involved and have their say.
