Overview

This event is open to all UoB students. By registering, you are committing to participate in the competition.

There are special prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. There will also be an 'Audience Favourite" Award. The top 3 winners will be voted by external judges who are experienced public speakers from a variety of different backgrounds. 

Location

The UoB Public Speaking Competition will take place on Sunday 17th March at the Murray Learning Centre in Lecture Theatre UG07. It will run from 10:00 am to 17:30 pm. 

The Competition Format

- Round 1: Prepared Speeches (all contestants)

You will be expected to deliver a 3-5 minute prepared speech on any topic of your choice. 

- Round 2: Pitching Round 

10 semi-finalists from Round 1 will be picked to progress to Round 2. You will be expected to deliver a 2-3 minute pitch on a random item/concept that we give to you. You will be given 2 minutes to prepare for this. 

- Round 3: Table Topics Round 

5 finalists from Round 2 will be picked to progress to Round 3. You will be expected to deliver a 2-3 minute 'table topic' (an impromptu speech) on a statement/quote that we give to you. You will be given 2 minutes to prepare for this.

Purchase an audience ticket if you would like to attend the event as a spectator.
