A Balancing Act: top-tips for managing work and study

Working part-time can be an amazing way, not only to top-up your income, but gain some great skills, boost your CV and meet new people. But, if you are concerned that it could be tricky juggling part-time work alongside your university studies, you’re not the only one. As a full-time Masters Student with a part time job, here are my tips to tackle the stress of working part-time and keeping on top of your university demands.

Be organised. Get a diary and make sure you use it! The worst thing is getting double booked or agreeing to work when you have a deadline looming over your head. Planning your activities, working hours, reading and essays in advance is one of the biggest things you can do to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Keep in contact. If you are having trouble with finances, working hours, or deadlines keep your employer and your tutors informed of what’s going on. Often if you are having problems, working hours can be rearranged, or deadlines amended

Take time off. It’s important to relax and take some time for yourself. Be realistic about what you can do and don’t overwork yourself as this often becomes counterproductive. Don’t feeling guilty for taking time off, as this is what will rejuvenate you and allow you to keep going!
