"Ellie Bean" Keiller

Hello. I’m ‘Ellie Bean’ Keiller, I’ve had a fantastic three years so far at Birmingham and I want to make your time here as good as mine.

Having been President of the Liberty Court RA;  where I successfully campaigned for better road safety and won RA and RA committee of the Year; and a part-time officer, helping to secure transport refunds for dental students, I’m now standing to be your Guild President.

Healthcare on Campus

Simple Healthcare Sign-up

As President, I would implement a system of healthcare sign-up during Welcome Week to make it easier to become a patient, or temporary patient, at the University Medical Centre. I would also work with the university to designate a space on campus for nurse led walk-in services such as contraception and STI testing/treatment.

Mental Health First Aid

I would also ensure that all key Guild staff receive mental health first aid training and would put in place a sign-posting system so you know where you can access mental health support on and off campus.

A Better, Safer Taxi Service

Extending the NotOn Campaign

Improving Taxi Services

As President, I will work to ensure that our affiliated taxi company is up to a good level of service, is good value and most importantly, is safe.

No one should ever face any form of sexual harassment and as President, I would extend the NotOn campaign against sexual harassment to the taxi services that the Guild works with, continuing the work to eliminate sexual harassment on and around campus.

A Guild With You, Wherever You Are

A Website that Works for You

As a former Liberty Court RA, a student on the Selly Oak campus and this year’s Satellite Sites Officer, I know that accessing the Guild building can be difficult for some students. As President, I would endeavour to provide more Guild services online. This would include creating a more user friendly, up to date website and online access to student groups forms and ARC services.

Campus Jobs and Beyond

Supporting Students with Jobs

Working whilst studying is incredibly challenging. As President, I would work to ensure UoB recognise this and support students through the personal tutor and extenuating circumstances system and acknowledgment of working in academic transcripts.

I would also review the Guild Student Staff’s working conditions - including pay schedules and ensuring that any consultation periods take place during term time.

Entrepreneurial Opportunities

As President I would also make the process of starting your own business a simpler and more accessible journey by ensuring funding is available for entrepreneurial students.

Giving You and Voice on National Issues

Continue the fight against Government cuts and increases to Student Fees

As President, I would continue to take on the Government on everything from cuts to maintenance grants to harmful visa restrictions on international students to cuts to NHS bursaries. I will ensure that you are equipped to speak out and campaign on these matters too.
