Are you interested in singing in an a cappella group? Inspired by Pitch Perfect perhaps, or by a cappella videos you stumbled across on a night-time YouTube binge? Can you beatbox? If yes to any of these questions, then this is the society for you!
The society currently consists of 7 separate a cappella groups:
Score - A mixed, auditioned group.
The Uptone Girls - An all-female, auditioned group.
Trebleution - A mixed, auditioned group.
AbraCappella - A mixed, auditioned group.
The Blair Pitch Project - A mixed, auditioned group.
One Note Stand - A mixed, auditioned group (doo-wop genre).
Acapitches - An all-female, auditioned group.
The society also has a non-auditioned section, which consists of regular society rehearsals which anyone is welcome to attend at any point in the academic year.
To join an auditioned cappella group:
Each group recruits new members once a year at the beginning of the academic year. Auditions for all groups are held together meaning you only need to audition once, regardless of how many groups you may be interested in joining. Unfortunately, auditions for the 2016-2017 academic year are over, but you can still join the non-auditioned section at any time during the year! Auditions are usually held in Week 1 of the Autumn term each year. In order to stay up to date with news of audition dates and other society events (including socials and workshops), please join our Facebook group - 'A Cappella Birmingham' or like the A Cappella Birmingham Facebook page.
For those who cannot commit to an a cappella group, do not wish to audition or have missed the opportunity this academic year, the society introduced a brand new non-auditioned group during the 2015-2016 academic year which will continue running this year. This group can be joined by anyone at any point of this academic year and does not require the level of commitment that an auditioned group will. If you wish to join the non-auditioned group, please join the following Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1157925300904137/?fref=ts - for more details. Alternatively, you can email the society or one of its committee members for more details. The society also aims to hold events such as workshops and showcases throughout the year - open to all students, not just society members so make sure to follow us on social media to find out more about these!
