Global Buddies

Who we are and what we do

Global Buddies is a Buddying Scheme that supports International Students, run by Guild Advice. Our Buddies are established students who volunteer their time to help you settle in to life at the University of Birmingham.

The Service offers peer-to-peer support and regular mixing events – an opportunity to meet our friendly volunteers and other students.

Global Buddies are often a first point of call for knowledge and information - they can help you meet others, settle in and make the most of your UoB experience!

“Being a Global Buddy has been fantastic! Having the opportunity to meet up with new people from around the world and show them the best of Birmingham has been an amazing experience. It’s really nice seeing people settle in, make new friends and enjoy activities together. And it’s been really rewarding helping make some of the activities happen too!”

Volunteer with us

Could you be a friend and mentor to international students?

We are looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to become Global Buddies - a point of contact for international students throughout their first year at the University of Birmingham. Our volunteers support a small number of international students, for up to 4 hours each week, with a view to help them settle in, meet others and make the most of their University experience.

We provide interactive training, teaching you everything you need to know to be a Global Buddy. Although, great social skills and empathy towards issues that may affect international students are beneficial.

Send your completed application form to globalbuddies@guild.bham.ac.uk
