  This course will provide you with the basic skills necessary to communicate with other BSL users about a variety of everyday topics and give you an officially recognised qualification. Whether you are looking to continue learning BSL in the future, want to be able to communicate with others in BSL, or just want to learn for fun; this course will meet your requirements.


Course Requirements

  No prior BSL skill or knowledge is required to participate in the course.

 Course Content: Signature BSL Level 1 course covering basic topics for everyday communication in BSL.

 Course Duration: Oct. 2017 - June 2018

 Taster Session: A taster session will be held during welcome week.


Course Overview 

The course is split into three sections:

  • BSL 101H - Introduction to BSL,
  • BSL 102 - Conversational BSL,

  • BSL 103 - Communicate in BSL about Everyday Life.

  Throughout the course you will cover many topics including greetings and introductions, numbers, asking for and giving directions, describing people and places, food. The course follows the Signature BSL Level One specification found here:


Course Duration Other Information

  The course will take place throughout university term time, starting the first week of October and ending in June and will consist of a weekly class (there will be three classes running on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) from 6.30pm to 9.00pm. 

  Classes will take place on Campus at the University and places for each day are offered on a first come, first serve basis however there will be scope to move people around so if you see the day that you want to do the course is not available just send us an email at and we will do our best to get you a place on the course.


Course Costs and Payment Options

  The full cost of the course is £100 and covers 65 hours of tuition. Tickets can be purchased here, on the Guild website. If you are unable to get tickets through the website, for whatever reason, let us know and we will make sure that either the system is fixed or an alternative method of payment is provided.
