Become a Global Buddy volunteer

Guild Advice are looking for more volunteers for our popular Global Buddies - International Buddying Scheme! The scheme provides a peer to peer mentoring service, offering informal support and guidance with settling in to the University and engaging in wider student community activities, enabling international students to meet others from around the globe and fully integrate into life in a new country.

We are looking for volunteers to be Global Buddies  - a point of contact for international students throughout their first year at the University of Birmingham and prior to their arrival. Each volunteer will be allocated a small number of international students with a view to helping them settle in and making the most of their University experience.

We are looking for friendly, reliable volunteers who are willing to share their experience of life at the University. We’ll train you with everything you need to know, although great social skills and empathy towards issues that may affect international students are beneficial.

This is a great opportunity to boost your CV with a role that demonstrates responsibility, problem solving, great communication and more whilst engaging in a truly rewarding experience.

“Being a Global Buddy has been fantastic! Having the opportunity to meet up with new people from around the world and show them the best of Birmingham has been an amazing experience. It’s really nice seeing people settle in, make new friends and enjoy activities together. And it’s been really rewarding helping make some of the activities happen too!” Aimee – Global Buddy

Please note if your application is shortlisted you will be invited to an informal interview and, if successful, full training will be provided.
