As the end of the Brexit transition period draws near, I wanted to check in with our EU, EEA and Swiss students, to remind you all to apply for the ‘EU Settlement Scheme’.
If you’re not familiar with the scheme, here’s exactly why you should apply…
Right now, in line with European Law, EU, EEA and Swiss nationals and their families can still come to the UK without requiring a visa. However, this changes at the end of the transition period on 31 December 2020.
This means that, anyone wishing to remain in the UK from 1 January, is advised to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme. This is to protect your ongoing right to live, study and work in the UK, once the new immigration rules take effect.
Are you eligible to apply?
To apply for the EU Settlement Scheme, you must have travelled to and lived in the UK prior to 31 December 2020.
So if you’re a student who’s been studying online in Autumn 2020, it’s recommended that you travel to the UK on or before 31 December, so you’re eligible to apply.
Also, if you plan to leave the UK i.e. for Christmas, we’d advise that you apply before leaving the country.
Don’t miss the deadline…
The deadline for applications is 30 June 2021, so please make sure you apply!
And don’t forget to apply before 31 December 2020 if you are travelling out of the UK.
