We are here to make the transition into living in student accommodation as smooth as can be, as well as ensuring you have every opportunity to make the most of life in accommodation throughout the year.

How do we do this? We offer peer support and organise events and activities so you can have fun and make friends – we want you to have the very best experience in halls.

University life is full of exciting opportunities but can also feel overwhelming at times. So, we’re here to offer you confidential support on anything from shared living (with your new flatmates) to managing homesickness to budgeting tips and lots more.

Whether you want a quick chat or need ongoing support, our team are here to help you. You can speak to us once or we can set up regular meetings and ongoing support. We’re happy to meet in person, chat over the phone, via Instagram or email.

Having issues in your flat? We can meet with you and your flatmates to talk things through, help resolve challenges, and work together to find practical solutions.

If you’d like to speak to us, you can get in contact via email, connect with us through Instagram, call or come and see us in our Office in Shackleton (Vale Village), open weekdays during term time, 4-8pm. You can drop in or arrange an appointment in advance. Prefer us to come to you? No problem, use our contact details to ask for a flat visit or to set up a flat meeting.

You can speak to us about anything, and we’ll always do our best to help and signpost you to appropriate support where needed. Common topics that students speak to us about include:

  • Shared living: building positive relationships and routines with your new flatmates, and resolving any potential flat disputes
  • Wellbeing: if you’re feeling homesick and need help settling in, you’re finding the transition to university life challenging or just need someone to talk to, please get in contact.
  • Academia: talk to us about revision techniques, managing your time, setting up a study routine, exam stress and more!
  • Housing: whether you have questions about moving into accommodation or finding private rented housing for the next year, we can help. We also offer Housemate Finder events throughout the year.
  • Budgeting: This might be your first time living away from home and managing your money, so we can offer you practical budgeting tips using our downloadable budget planner. We can also speak to you about finding part-time work alongside your studies.
  • Everyday living: confused by the washing machine or how the oven works? Don’t worry – our friendly team is here to help you get used to it. Alongside this, we are also here to help you navigate campus and offer recommendations to help you settle into life in Birmingham.

No, you don’t need to bring anything with you when meeting with us. You can either drop-in to our office or get in contact with us first to arrange an appointment.

We can talk to you individually about the situation and offer advice and suggestions on your options.

We can also meet with you and your flatmates in your flat to talk things through, help resolve challenges, provide resources such as cleaning rotas and work together to find practical solutions.

We understand it can be difficult to have these conversations. Our support aims to ease any challenges, not create them - so don’t worry about reaching out for help!

You can attend as many as you like. We regularly host events within your student accommodation, alongside larger scale events throughout the year, such as Open Air (outdoor) Cinemas, Pizza Parties (free pizza and a chance for you to meet other students in halls) and our Halloween Spooktacular, a seasonal celebration where students are invited wear their best Halloween costume, enjoy free food and take part in fun activities.

Our events are open to any current University of Birmingham students who live in UoB or Partner accommodation. You must also be aged 16 or over to attend.

Yes! If you’re living in student accommodation, you can join us at events taking place in any of our UoB or partner accommodation sites. So, if you live in Battery Park and want to attend an event in Vale accommodation, you can!

When you come along to one of our events, please make sure you bring your Student ID with you.

We offer large scale and also smaller peer-to-peer events hosted at each individual accommodation site.

Our events provide you with the opportunity to get to know your halls community, make friends and have fun, they are all free of charge and alcohol free.

Whether you enjoy some relaxing crafting, want to make mocktails or enjoy playing board games, there is something for everyone.
