Careers, Connections and Croissants
Interested in a legal career but not sure where to begin?
Careers, Connections and Croissants is designed for students who feel as though everyone else already understands applications, networking and legal opportunities. Whether you are a first-year student, study a non-law subject, are an international or first-generation student, or simply want a clearer starting point, this session will take you through the essentials without assuming any previous knowledge.
We will cover:
different legal and law-related career paths
opportunities available throughout university
common terms such as open days, insight schemes, vacation schemes, training contracts and mini-pupillages
where to find reliable opportunities and keep track of deadlines
introductory CV and LinkedIn guidance
how to approach networking with greater confidence
The session will also include practical insights from students or University of Birmingham alumni, subject to final confirmation. You will then have the opportunity to practise introducing yourself, asking useful questions and approaching professional conversations in a friendly and supportive setting.
No previous legal careers knowledge or networking experience is required. You are welcome to attend even if you do not yet know which area of law interests you.
The formal session will finish at 18:00. Attendees who wish to stay can join us for an optional informal conversation over croissants and light refreshments.
Slides and useful careers links will be shared digitally with registered attendees after the event.
