Birmingham Labour Society is delighted to welcome Preet Kaur Gill, Labour and Co-operative MP for Birmingham Edgbaston, home to the University of Birmingham, for an evening of discussion and Q&A.
Preet was first elected in 2017 and made history as the first female Sikh MP in the House of Commons. She has since held front-bench roles including Shadow Secretary of State for International Development and, more recently, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. These roles have given her a front-row seat on some of the biggest debates in Westminster, from global development to the future of the NHS.
As our local MP, Preet offers a unique perspective on the issues that matter most to students and residents in Edgbaston. She can also speak to what it's really like representing a constituency that includes your own university.
Join us for an informal in-conversation session followed by an open floor Q&A. This is your chance to ask about her journey into politics, her time in government and the Shadow Cabinet, and what she thinks the Labour movement needs to do next.
Any questions, email us at: labour-secretary@society.guild.bham.ac.uk
- Location will be within the Guild of Students but specific rooms will be announced on our WhatsApp Community. Membership required.
