Are you moving out soon and have unwanted items you’d like to get rid of? Then why not donate some of your old things to Junkbusters and raise some money for charity at the same time!

In the past three years we’ve raised £30,000 for charity all with the aim of becoming more sustainable, reducing waste and taking the stress out of move out day! We all want Selly Oak to be safer, greener, cleaner and more cohesive, so tidy streets are a big part of this.

Giving unwanted items to charity not only helps give back to your community but is a much more sustainable way of living. Your unwanted item could be the exact thing someone else has been looking for!

How it works

Our Community Wardens set up stalls around Selly Oak for students to come and drop off any donations. All proceeds go towards charities such as the British Heart Foundation and Birmingham Hospice.

Accepted donations

You can donate clothes (including those sports night fancy dress outfits!), books, ornaments, decorations and more.

There are a few things that we do not accept: duvets, pillows, broken or dirty items, knives, hangers, food, bikes or helmets. If you want to drop off an electrical item, then the weekend dates (28th and 29th June) are when you can do this.

When and where is this happening?

We’ll be accepting donations on 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th June. The stalls will be open from 12pm-3pm on each of these days.

We’ll have stalls set up on the Corner of Dartmouth Rd and Heeley Rd (B29 6DR), Corner of Dawlish Rd and Exeter Rd (B29 6EU), Corner of Raddlebarn & Bournbrook Rd and Bournbrook Pavilion, Aston Webb Blvd (outside where Starbucks used to be).

We recognise that not everyone can easily bring items to us, particularly if you want to donate lots of items or if circumstances prevent you from coming to one of our collection points. But don’t worry, just get in touch with the Community Wardens via email or our social media and we’ll do our best to help.

You can also donate your items directly to The British Heart Foundation or Birmingham Hospice. There are some other charities that would also love to receive your donations: Shelter, The ReUsers, Upcycle Birmingham, Betal Clearances, Emmaus, Islamic Relief UK, Birmingham City Mission Resource Centre and The Salvation Army Donation Centre.
