We are the University of Birmingham's award-winning comic opera society. We're looking for enthusiastic singers, so whether you are a seasoned performer, or you've never been on stage before, there will be a place for you in one of our shows. Our non-auditioned chorus and orchestra are ideal for students who are looking to pursue their musical interests in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Normally, we stage two productions each year (in January and May) in addition to a December concert and occaisonal external performances. Every summer we take a show to the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, where we have won numerous awards including Best Production (Ruddigore, 2019), Best Director (Lydia Skrentny, Ruddigore 2019), Best Character Actress (Hattie Pinches, Ruddigore 2019; Hattie Pinches Patience 2016) and Best International Chorus (Patience 2016). G&S Camp has become a highly anticipated event for members! In addition to our musical activities, we also run various socials throughout the year, including quizes, picnics, karaoke nights and concert trips.

To get a feel for how online rehearsal is going to run, we're running a short project called Hail Poetry. We have a Facebook support group which is linked at the top but feel free to message or email us about this! Our only in-person show of the year will be Pirates of Penzance in the Summer, which will receive a limited run before our trip to the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival (Restrictions permitting). One of the best things about G&S is the community and the friendships we make during our shows. To capture some of this in our socially distant reality, our Social Secretaries will be running weekly post-rehearsal socials for people to get to know each other and chat outside of rehearsal time.
