The Baha'i Society is a forum integrating Students and Staff Appreciating our different beliefs and cultures, Learn & share with experts & each other, Contribute to a more Just, Inclusive and Equitable Society, and to express these ideals through Action & Service to the Community. The Baha’i Society creates inclusive spaces where through discussions and experiences we can better achieve our inner potential, begin to discover the similarities between different Faiths, ideologies and cultures and discover positive unifying forces that can advance our human society. This way, together, we can be empowered to become positive agents for change.

What is The Baha’i Society based on?

It is inspired by the principles of the Baha’i Faith, but it is an Open Society and welcomes all from every background. The Baha’i Faith, began in 1844, is an independent World Faith with followers from all nationalities and cultures. It believes that all Faiths come from the same God to help advance society. The purpose of the Baha’i Faith is to bring unity, harmony and greater application of spiritual principles to solve the social, economic and environmental problems that our world faces. It states that this can be achieved through unity while celebrating diversity, and breaking down barriers of prejudice such as related to nationality, race, sex, faith and ideology – barriers that have fueled the injustices which characterize our world today. Some key Bahá’í principles: ***Oneness of humanity and freedom from all forms of prejudice ***One God that is the source of all Faiths which should all be respected ***Equality of opporunities for men and women ***Independent investigation of truth (faith is not hereditory) ***Elimination of the extremes of wealth and poverty ***Universal education ***Harmony of science and Faith

What does The Baha’i Society do?

The Baha’i Society organises different activities guided by the interests of its members. This year’s provisional plans include:

• Panels, Talks & Discussions held jointly with other Societies or University Departments or Birmingham Community Groups with mutual interests on Current Issues with experts - TBC first semester 2023 Senior advisor to United Nations discussing Progress and Barriers to Global Development Agenda

•  “Tranquility Zone” All-inclusive informal spaces using Inspired Readings, Prayers and Music from different Faiths and sources on themes - Peace, Social Development, Equality. Relax & reflect:

-- 2023-2424 F2F every other 7.00pm Monday evening, and

-- 2023-2424 ZOOM every other week Thursdays 7.30pm

•  Celebrating UK Interfaith Week – 10-18th Nov 2023 Bring your Creativity.

• “Study Circles” - free participatory courses 

•  Opportunity to volunteer in community projects locally, or in other parts of the UK or other countries abroad including Africa/Asia 

•  Social dinners and cultural events & meet for coffee TBC
