Russian Speaking Society
Our society aims to help Russian-speaking students adapt comfortably to a university system. We understand that every person needs people with a similar language and culture in their environment, especially freshers who may be afraid to remain unheard due to possible language barriers. Our group creates the atmosphere where all Russian-speaking students can find support and make new friends due to gatherings we organise together.
The society regularly holds events both on and off campus. We organise excursions to museums and factory tours, which allows our members to broaden cultural and professional horizons. On weekends, we hold more restful meetings at cafes, cinema, or entertainment centres. This provides our community with a good opportunity to get to know each other better, relax after studies and become more familiar with the area around university. We are also open to cooperation and friendship with other language societies at the UoB as well as Russian-speaking societies of other UK universities, who we are ready to organise joint events with.
We invite all Russian-speaking students to join in, no matter whether you are here only for a term or a full-course programme. If you are a student learning Russian as a foreign language, this is also a good opportunity for you to practice! Our team members are always ready to help you integrate. As long as you would like to join a Russian-speaking atmosphere, you are most welcome!
