Are you staying in Birmingham over the summer? Whether you’re looking for some inspiration for new places to visit or you want to check what support is available to you, we’ve got you covered.

Must-see spots in Birmingham

Just a short walk from campus will lead you to Winterbourne House and Garden, where you can wonder round the grounds of an Edwardian historic house. Winterbourne hosts events all throughout summer so whether you’re into open-air theatre, music or mystery, there will be something for you to explore and enjoy! P.S. as a UoB student you get free admission to the site with a valid UoB ID card.

Heading into the city centre? Why not take a walk around Digbeth and explore vintage shops, music venues and more. Red Brick Market is a great place to start. It’s full to the brim of independent stalls selling anything from candles, clothes, homeware, prints and more.

You may have walked past the Library of Birmingham or popped in for a quick study session, but there’s so much more to it. Did you know the library has an outdoor amphitheatre where you can watch poetry readings, live music, drama and more. You can also head right to the top and get one of the best views of Birmingham from one of the city’s highest points.

It’s also worth checking local guides for all the latest events and activities you can get involved in over the summer months.

Travel further afield

With train stations like New Street, Snow Hill and Moor Street right in the city centre, Birmingham is well connected to other major cities for you to explore. You’re just a short train ride away from Shropshire, Worcester, Stafford, Solihull and much more!

Our upcoming events

We’ll be running fun events in your accommodation over summer, so keep checking our What’s On page and @uobguildhallslife Instagram for updates! Make sure to also mark your diaries for the Postgraduate and Ethnic Minority Students’ Summer social on 9 July!

Our newly refurbished Wetherspoon @ Joe’s will be open over the summer months so why not pay a visit and enjoy some affordable food and drink options, watch live sport screenings and catch up with your friends now that term is done. You can view the opening times on our website.

On top of that, we’re currently busy working on lots of exciting events for the Welcome period, so get ready to plan your perfect Welcome Week! Key updates will be shared through the Guild’s Instagram and Welcome emails so keep checking back for updates.

Support over summer

Although many students may choose to stay at home over the summer break, we’re not going anywhere! Our Community Pantry will still be open for students in need of support - please book your slot online and a member of the team will be in touch with more information on how to collect your items.

You can still make use of all our services and seek support from us, whether you’re looking for Health and Wellbeing support, advice on keeping safe at home or on a night out, or if you’d like to reach out to Guild Advice for general support and guidance.
