Whether you've heard of model NATO before or it's an entirely new concept, this information evening will get you prepared for applying to model NATO in 2024.
About model NATO:
The University of Birmingham offers multiple model NATO conference opportunities throughout the year to POLSIS students. This includes conferences in Birmingham, London, Lisbon and Washington DC.
Model NATO offers delegates a chance to develop their negotiation and diplomacy skills. It is a simulation of a real-life NATO conference. You will be acting as a delegate for one of NATO's 31 member countries and will have to provide speeches as well as collaborating with other delegates with the aim of passing a final communique at the end of the conference.
About your speakers:
Polly Jones:
Polly is a University of Birmingham alumni, graduating last year from her Masters in Global Conflict and Cooperation. Polly is well versed in the world of model NATO, having completed and chaired many conferences. Polly was recently awarded outstanding delegate in Washington DC 2023, as well as being awarded the Committee Leadership Award in Washington DC 2022.
Polly will be a very useful resource for information on how model NATO conferences work and can provide many tips for how to be a successful delegate and applicant.
Lucy McCabe:
Your president of Women in Politics, Lucy, recently completed her first model NATO conference in Washington DC 2023. Lucy, along with Polly, was part of the team awarded outstanding delegation in Wahington DC, the top award of the conference.
New to the world of model NATO, Lucy will be able to provide experience of what it's like completing a conference with no prior experience and tips for a successful interview.
