Guild President received a petition calling for a referendum on the Guild’s disaffiliation to NUS
The Guild President received a petition calling for a referendum on the Guild’s disaffiliation to NUS (UK) on the 30th January 2026.
In line with the Guild Bye-Law 3 the petition was verified to have been signed by not less than 1.5% of the Full Membership (698) and therefore was accepted. The Guild Officer Group met on the 11th February 2026 and set the dates of voting in the Referendum as opening on 9th March 2026 at 10am, and closing on 13th March 2026 at 4pm.
The Referendum question will be: Should the Guild disaffiliate from the National Union of Students (UK).
The timeline for the referendum will be:
- Voting opens: Monday 9th March, 10am
- Voting closes: Friday 13th March, 4pm
In line with Byelaw 3, quorum for the Referenda shall be 5% of the Full Members of the Guild (2378). In order for a Referendum to pass, it must be quorate and receive at least 50% + 1 of votes cast.
