Rugby (University of Birmingham Medical School RFC- UBMSRFC)

Founded in 1958, the University of Birmingham Medical School RFC has a proud legacy as one of the strongest medical school rugby teams in the UK. We’re two-time National Medical Schools Champions and have twice claimed victory in the Brum Varsity, defeating the University of Birmingham 1st XV.

The club continues to go from strength to strength. In the 2023/24 season, our 1st XV reached the National Medical Schools Final and were crowned Midlands & North East Student Champions—putting the Birmingham Engineers to the sword twice along the way.

Our 2nd XV, the ‘Airsharks’, consistently performs in the National Medical Schools 2s Division and thrives in regular local derbies.

But we’re more than just a rugby team.

Off the pitch, we have one of the most vibrant social scenes at the Medical School: weekly socials, a legendary mystery tour, and our unmissable annual rugby dinner—all open to both playing and non-playing members.

Whether you’re an experienced academy player or completely new to the game, there’s a place for you at UBMSRFC. We welcome students from all courses and all abilities.
